Innersense is my Main Styling Line I use in the studio . I absolutely love how clean, affordable and amazing it is. I recommend: I Create Curl Memory (the most moisturizing gel ever), or I Create Hold Gel and I Create Definition for ramping up the volume/casting and longevity. I also recommend Quiet Calm Curl Cream for soft effects and added moisture on it's own or to add with Memory as well as Smoothing Cream for the ultimate addition of moisture for those that want to soften or play curls DOWN. ​ ​ - Link to Hair Story (New Wash and more) I use New Wash by Hairstory as my main zero lather cleanser plus conditioner in one . I recommend "Rich" for ​the most moisture starved hair and "Original " for all other hair, including low density/fine hair (just a little bit goes long way). I've been using an "all in one" for 5 years now and don't think I'll ever go back to regular shampoo, however, I always do add in a mild detox cleanser (K-18) or detox conditioning mask (Innersense) once every 1-2 months. For Victoria's own version that matches New Wash's "Original" formula, which I also love and use in the studio, is Lure's Soft as Cashmere Cleansing Cream. ​ - Link to Jack 59 (Refresh Conditioner Sprays and more) Jack 59 Leave In Conditioner Sprays are hands down, my favourite Curl Refresh spray I've ever used. They work on all textures from Wavy to Coily/Tight Textured, Low to High Porosity and Low to High Density hair. I recommend using every day that is not your wash day and applying over dry hair vs spraying with water first. THE CURLY CUT My Dry Cutting technique is intuitive - a blend between precision and freestyle form. I focus on your texture so you don't have to overthink or over style your hair. ​ I believe in Low Maintenance Ready to Wear Hair , which begins with a full intake of your home routine and consultation tailored to your hair goals. ​ Your Haircut will be customized to your texture and face shape followed by a cleanse, product application and style dry. Style Dry- After product application, we'll diffuse and likely finish under the hooded dryer. ​ ​ Please note, I'm a Hand Styler , meaning, I don't do blow outs, round brushing, or any hot irons. Instead, I set the hair with my hands and diffuse for a natural air dried effect. *I'm Not a Barber so I don't do fades but I know some good ones I can recommend!

My Little Story Hi! I'm Mychal Pinkard (she/her) and I'm here to help you celebrate and enhance your natural texture. Being a "curly girl" myself, I love working with the entire curl spectrum and helping clients feel confident inside and out. ​ My background spans 20+ years in the industry as a stylist, educator, and salon owner. ​ Having closed Wild At Heart, my former salon in 2021 after 8 years in Portland, I'm delighted to bring my skills, major enthusiasm and energy to Greater Victoria BC and beyond! ​ I was a Licensed Cosmetologist in California and Oregon and am forever grateful to the master stylists I apprenticed under many moons ago. I also earned a BA in Liberal Arts, CSUCI and these days continue my (hair)education from online courses/tutorials. ​ I'm a mom of two high spirited kids and partnered with an exceptional human. A: Yes, even if you have soft waves, Wavy counts! Q: What if I hardly have any waves but want to try and bring more out? A: You can book a cut for, "Straighter Hair Seeking Wavy" ​ Q: Why does my hair need to be dry for the cut? A: Dry cutting is best for controlling how much shrinkage will occur after a cut and also so that it will be tailored to how you will most often wear it when down. ​ Q: If I colour my hair, will it damage my curls? A: Damage from colour occurs when hair is overprocessed (when hair is lightened multiple times) which can make the ends straighter and very weak. Bleach also elongates and slightly straightens hair so I prefer colour vs bleach whenever possible. ​ Q: What is The Dry Cut Prep for all Haircuts? A: Arrive with Clean Hair (day 1, 2), Fully Dry, Detangled, Product in but no casting(crunch)no buns/braids/clips/hat hair and worn down including preferred direction/parts.
